E is for Earwig

E is for Earwig

Back to the insects I go with E is for Earwig. Nasty things that hide under plant pots and love dahlia flowers. Actually, the nasty looking pincers aren't used against humans, you'll be pleased to hear. They are rather useful in that they feed on 'detritus' and other dead organic material. This is a female as the male has straighter pincers. There, your biology lesson for today!!

E is for Eggplant

This one will be going to live with Lolo!!

I was inspired to do an Eggplant because I came across this wonderful 'Grilled Eggplant Burger' recipe!  If you are so inclined to try it I have included the link to the recipe:  http://thehealthyhag.wordpress.com/2008/01/25/grilled-eggplant-burgers/

Happy 'E' everyone and Lolo, be on the lookout!

E is for Envy

A green-with-envy card that will go out to Gina! Green is appropriate for Ireland isn't it, and I suppose I could say that I am envious of all the lovely walks and interesting adventures that Gina has. But really...I just did the word out of the blue....or is it out of the green.

E is for eggs, salmon eggs that is

I tried to capture what a skein of salmon eggs (also called roe) looks like - these have little fish ready to hatch. I didn't mean to make them smiling; it just turned out that way! I'm sending this to Lisa.

E=Elephant

'The Indian (or Asian Elephant) differs in many ways from its African relative - they are smaller in size and their ears are smaller.
A mahout is a person who drives an elephant. Usually, a mahout starts as a boy in the 'family business' when he is assigned an elephant early in its life and they would be attached to each other throughout the elephant's life.'

This ellie and his mahout are on their way to live with Teri, at the same time as her ellie is on its way to live with me. Snap Teri girl.

E is for Elephant

E is for ElEphant
Big, grey and plodding along
Carrying his trunk

This guy has already jumped in the mail and is headed to Joss in the UK.
I was marveling how these letters worked out for everyone when I had no idea who would get them when I wrote the haiku.

"Hay"

The Fifth Letter in the Hebrew Alphabet is "Hay". To learn it's meaning go here.
To see the whole alphabet and HEAR THE SOUNDS of the letters to here.
It will look like Hay is the sixth letter, but that is because the second letter "Bet" has two sounds depending on a dot in it's center, with the dot it sounds like "be" with a soft e, and without the dot it sounds like "ve" with a soft v.

Remember when reading Hebrew you start from right to left. So you find the first letter, Aleph on the far right side of the page, top line.

"Hay" has been mailed to Marianne, whose "E" arrived in my mailbox yesterday! Thank you Marianne, I love it and especially am touched by the sweet note in your card.

E = for Earth

This Earth is already revolving for Lynn!

E is for Erato Heliconia for Patty

E is for Erato Heliconia.  I am trying to chose butterflies from North America. This one you have to go to Panama to see unless of course they have them at your local butterfly house.
This is winging its way to Patty.

E is for Eggs of Blue

This little nest full of blue eggs is now in Florida with Cat!

Just before posting this morning I watched a Nat'l Geographic video clip about an elderly man single-handedly doing all he can to save the Eastern Bluebird and he has been at it for the past couple of decades. He's in his eighties now and still puts in 16 hours a day by building wooden nesting boxes and putting them all over his farm. The video showed him rapping softly on the door of each one, gently opening the door and peeking in to see eggs and new babies in nearly every one of them! Now his boxes can be found across the U.S. because the word has spread.

Grassroots~people making a difference by doing what they can.

I wish I could have linked the video! It's on MSN.com ;)

I hope this ATC gives all of you hopes for spring!

A forest!

Have to show you this picture!
Patty's birches arrived this week.
I already had Lolo's birches framed and I thought they would be so nice together, so now I own a forest!
(lucky me that I had the same frame in a drawer)
Click to enlarge and admire the beauties!
Thank you both once again!

D is for Dots, Diamonds, Dogs, Dashes.......

I've had a D for disastrous week. I tried to draw a dragonfly and it was awful, then I tried a Death Watch Beetle - just as bad! So I gave up with my insects for this week and just threw everything in with a 'D' lol. I do hope Marianne likes it, as that's where it's heading, late as ever!

D is for Dungeness Crab

This is a delicious (if you like seafood!) Dungeness Crab. Micron 005 pen with watercolor wash. This crab will be crawling to Florida to see Cat very soon!

D is for Dryadula phaetusa

This Dryadula phaetusa or more commonly known as Banded Orange Heliconian is a butterfly that you would only find in south Texas.  I have been lucky enough to see one of these. They are normally only in Mexico but wander up to south Texas.  This is going out to Lolo.

D is for...

Dragonfly!!

This one is for BT!  I love to see Dragonflies in the garden and thought maybe she might need one!  Hope you like her, BT!  She's on her way to join you in the garden!

I just had to do D for Dog

I have to say that my original D for Dog suffered greatly thru travel this week and was not fit to send out. So another "heavenly Dog" was created and is being sent to Lynn.

Time for Daled

Not all Hebrew letters line up with our English ABCs, however the fourth letter, Daled, definitely has a D sound! My son's name Dan, in Hebrew starts with Daled as does Daveed/David in Hebrew! I see the envelop on my desk ready to be mailed off to Joss in London!

D Is For Dapper

I had a lot of fun with this one!

D is for dapper
Dan would be his first name
Dapper is his last

Already on the way to Alaska to live with Patty.

D = Ducks

A bit cheeky of me to even think of doing birds for Lisa, as she is such an accomplished artist when it comes to drawing them/or any animal.
But I did. And they flew off to Lisa last week.

D= for daisy in the Sunshine

Well, for who will this Daisy bloom soon?
Of course, who else?!!
Teri!
Enough sunshine there in Arizona for this daisy.........
If the sun doesn't shine here we can always paint it.
Have a nice Sunday!
